Service Before Power: Conversations with Mussab Ali

At our Servant Leadership initiative, we are not interested in power for the sake of power. Rather, our interest in policy and civic engagement emerges naturally from our commitment to service and finding solutions for problems faced by marginalized communities.
We are committed to working with activists and change-makers who exemplify a commitment to service, ethics, and doing good for their communities and local context. Our policy work is based on working with people who are well positioned to live out these values and who, if given a broader platform, will be examples that can inspire others to do the same. We want to promote the people who, starting from their local context, can be catalysts for change for localities across the country.

We recently hosted a podcast with Mussab Ali, candidate for mayor in Jersey City. Mussab, in conversation with Dr. Mannan Razzak (Green Medical Senior Policy Advisor) and David Chmielewski (Green Medical, Director of Civil and Human Rights), both local New Jersey activists, spoke about the importance of local politics and his vision change in Jersey City.
Words from First Donors

Mussab didn’t just speak about his mayoral race from the lens of political maneuvering and polling he spoke about this mayoral race as an opportunity to build community, to connect people to their neighbors, and involve new people in the landscape of Jersey City politics.

Service Before Power:
Conversation With

Mussab Ali

Dr. Razzak, David Chmielewski, and Mussab Ali reflected on the importance of candidates who can represent examples of authentically living your identity in a diverse locality like Jersey City. It wasn’t so much a conversation about politics as usual as it was a conversation about using politics as a means for ethical transformation of our world.
It wasn’t so much a conversation about politics as usual as it was a conversation about using politics as a means for ethical transformation of our world.

Mussab exemplifies the kind of change-makers we want to be working with in our Servant Leadership Initiative: people of conscious thinking imaginatively and strategically about political transformation, not just winning the race in front of them.

We look forward to continuing to build our network of service and ethical minded individuals in the political arena and hope you enjoy this latest edition of the podcast.
